Reading 

 

  • In whole-class reading, we are reading lots of texts about numerous subjects: concentrating specifically on vocabulary and inference. 

 

  • We expect every child to be reading independently for at least ten minutes every night. (At least two of these sessions should be with an adult.) Please sign your child's Reading Record, so they can move on the Raving Readers Chart to achieve awards. 

 

  • We expect every child to use the Read Theory accounts (that have been created for them) to help them improve their comprehension skills. Each child should aim for two hundred knowledge points per week - this is checked every Monday. Web address: readtheory.org 

 

  • To assist children with their comprehension skills and to help them answer inference questions; we have attached a range of comprehension questions which you can go through with your child. Please bear in mind that good readers should not just be able to read the words but should also be able to understand what they are reading and answer questions about the text.
